Mayor Jerry Weber would like early workers to keep the noise down for the first couple of hours when they start at 5 a.m. to beat the heat.
Town resident Kelly Kirpes shared several concerns from fellow citizens about the early morning noise. He said he understands the reason to start so early but other neighbors with young children are not as understanding.
The mayor also reported that he will plan to apply for a grant through the Transportation Improvement Board where the city and school recently swapped property ownership near the school. This grant would be used to put in new curbs and new sidewalks.
Dot Sharp said a new fence would be helpful as well, which Mayor Weber said would be included.
The mayor signed a letter after the council approved the action for a cooperative agreement with Whitman County for snow removal and sanding.
The council also approved offering some aluminum piping to the surplus sale. Sharp
Mayor Weber also reported that the truck is being repaired that handles recycling for the town.
Sharp said there is also a large desk in the shop that could be sold.
Kirpes shared several other concerns about drivers speeding and not abiding by stop signs in town. He also asked about where residents can find town council minutes. Town Clerk Jenni Straughan said she’s submitted them to First Step Internet and recently sent the company a second request for the last two months worth of minutes.
The council approved payment of bills. For approving payment of payroll, Council Member Ken Darby abstained from the vote.
Scott Miller did not attend the meeting which lasted 25 minutes. The next meeting has been moved to Sept. 1 because of the Labor Day holiday.
